Trollfest new album out in Aprill

The Norwegian folk black metal band (troll metal as some people call it, this Finntroll inspired sound) will be realeasing a new album entitled "En Kvest For Den Hellige Gral", the album is set to be release in the 29th of Aprill.

On an interview about the album concept and artwork the band stated:

"Just like our second album 'Brakebein,' 'En Kvest For Den Hellige Gral' is also a concept album, which this time centres on the story of five Trolls who set out on a quest to find the Holy Grail that will reputedly deliver all the Trolls from a horrible famine. Exactly how it will do this is not by some heaven sent miracle, but by providing an endless food source in the shape of the hordes of Christians
who will come searching for the Holy Grail themselves! As you can imagine, this rather 'unholy' quest is a somewhat beer-fuelled, blood-soaked adventure in typical Troll tradition! And if you want to know what happens next to the brave questers, there is an epilogue in the form of bonus track on the digipack edition.

"When it came to actually illustrating the story of our five brave and adventurous Trolls for 'En Kvest For Den Hellige Gralm' there was only one choice we could possibly make, and that was Jonas Darnell. Ever since he created the evil Iron Duck for our 'Villanden' album, Jonas has been bringing the characters of the TrollfesT universe to life through his art. It then falls to Terje Johnsen to design and put together all of Jonas’ wonderful creations into a spectacular package. Terje has been part of the TrollfesT crew since Brakebein, and his work has earned him the honorary title of 'Andy WarTroll'."

Deferum Sacrum - Septicaemia (Review)

After three years of the Antichristian Disease EP release, Ukrainians Deferum Sacrum bring forth a new work, the album Septicaemia released on February 15, 2011, under the seal of More Hate Productions, seems to show what they're made of.
In the meantime the group has changed not only musically but in their composition, after all, at the end of 2010 after five years of joint work group leaves drummer Yar. To replace his Adopted Equinox (Black Inquisition, Flying, Semargl, Revolt), And also agreed with the Russian label More Hate Productions release of the full-length album in 2011.
In this latter work the maturation of the group is notable, the songs are fuller, more aggressive drums, riffs more worked, and stronger vocal.

The album consists of 8 tracks, 38:18 total time, and the current group is Athamas - Vocals, bass (Raventale) Morthvarg - Guitar (Balance Interruption, Semargl, Den of Winter), Equinox - Drums (Balance Interruption, Den of Winter) Astaroth - Guitar (Raventale, Den of Winter).

Septicaemia (also septicemia) is a related medical term referring to the presence of pathogenic organisms in the bloodstream, leading to sepsis. The body may develop this inflammatory response by the immune system to microbes in the blood, urine, lungs, skin, or other tissues.

The album starts with the track That Name Itself, "Septicaemia, " That starts slow but very aggressive, then, suddenly it goes fast and powerful, specially the riffs and vocals, for sure, matched the responsibility to name the album.

The second track, "The Crawl", follow the firts's same rhythm, starts slow and then attack your tympanum with the high speed of the riffs and the drum. It's a good track.

"All Living Fades" it's the third, and, unlike the others, starts fast and keep this rhythm until after the middle, where turns into a more pace rhythm, what gives a good contrast at the end. At this song it's possible to realize the ripening of the group very well.

The fourth, "‎Emasculating Touch of God" begins with a few screams of terror that soon are substituted by the attack of the drums, at this song, the pace is much shifting among the slow and fast, what makes it almost hypnotic with the distortions at the end. Great Song.

At "Crown Of Degradation" we can realize the solidity of this album and of the group, sometimes makes me remember Dark Funeral a bit.

The sixth, "Flame Of Extinction Shall Burn", in fact, burns from the beginning to the end, with a small exception at the starts of the last quarter, when the cadence replaces the speed.

The seventh, "Reverential Paralysis" it's instrumental, it's like a horror lullaby, hypnotic, slow, and creepy with the whispers. One of the bests.

The last, "Mass Supression" starts calm following the rhythm of the previous and slowly growing until explode into screams and fast beats, followed again by a slow and calm pace, and, what prevail are just screams at the background finishing with absolute silence.

The More Hate Productions did a good job here, everything is alright.

The highlight in the album is the contrast in tempo and the drummer managed it very well. I felt some monotony in a few moments, but nothing that will get the merit of the work.

Rossomahaar - "Moscow (The sanguine Reign of Terror) II" Review

Rossomahaar are Russian avant-garde melodic black metal band that over the years have started to incorporate influences from other genres, from symphonic to jazz. They were formed in 1995 by Lazar (guitar) and Vlad (drums and vocals), starting as a side project to the band Stonehenge. In 1997 the two members disagreements ended up in the departure of Vlad. Despite being alone Lazar recorded alone the demo “Grotesque" and since there Lazar is in control of theRossomahaar project. Since 1997 Rossomahaar as experimented with symphonic, russian folk and jazz music, their overall sound is a mid paced melodic black metal often using synth and unorthodox acoustic instruments (such as saxophone and trombone). Many of the band works are available for free download from the official site (including this EP).

This EP is the latest release by the band and is composed by three tracks forming a total length of 14 minutes and 21 seconds, and works as promo for their upcoming album.
For this album the collective worked as a trio compromising Lazar on guitar, vocals and keyboards; Kniaz on bass and Artist on drums.

The first track entitled "Ragnaroek 2014" features a brief keyboard intro followed by a sudden change introducing guitars and drums, as the song progresses there are several tempo changes ranging from semi-whispered vocals accompanied by a slow keyboard riff to create some kind of spooky atmosphere to distorted screams featuring blast beats and fast guitar riffs. To me this is the strongest track in this EP.

The second track "Naidi, Ubey!" is the most traditional heavy metal song of the EP. The drums take a key part in the song and the keyboards unlike the first jump to a secondary position appearing in the chorus and few places more, this song also feature a shy guitar solo accompanied by sampled folk sting instruments.

The final track "Generation-Zero" is the most power metal influenced song, with a style reminding Children of Bodom. The song structure is pretty simple and the only thing that really separates Rossomahaar from the finish group in this song is the vocals which have a lower register than Laiho's.

The production isn't bad far from that for a band of this style on their situation they have a good production, sometimes the drums (specially) sound weird, but thats something a black metal fan wont mind.

Overall the EP isn't bad but it's kind of disappointing the departure from the jazz fusion sound, in this EP there is no sax like in the previous albums and no vargan or domra like in the previous EP "Moscow (The sanguine Reign of Terror)" released in 2006, which to me leaves some doubts about the new album yet to be released (entitled "The Reign of Terror"). Anyway this isn't a bad release but still I think you should check out older stuff first, especially if you're a avant-garde or experimental music enthusiast.
